The Craft

Made the slow way

Every Botirry strap passes through one pair of hands from start to finish. We do not split the work across a line, because the person who cuts the leather is the person who should feel how it stitches and how the edge takes paint. About a full day of quiet work goes into a single strap.

Inside the Botirry leather workshop in Da Nang
Our small family workshop in Da Nang, where every Botirry strap is made by hand.

We work with premium calf leathers and a small run of refined leathers, chosen for grain, firmness and how they age. Each hide is checked by hand, and only the cleanest sections become straps.

Every strap, step by step

Cutting a leather watch strap by hand

01. Cutting to your size

Nothing is pre-made. After you order, the pattern is traced onto the hide and cut by hand with a fresh blade - one clean pull per line - to the exact lug and buckle width you chose.

Skiving the strap on the bell skiver

02. Skiving

Each piece is thinned on the skiver so the strap lies flat and comfortable on the wrist, never bulky.

Bevelling the strap edges by hand

03. Bevelling the edges

The edges are bevelled and shaped by hand for a soft, rounded feel and a clean finished line.

Marking stitch holes with an iron and mallet

04. Marking the stitches

Stitch holes are pressed with an iron and mallet so every stitch lands perfectly even.

Hand saddle-stitching with two needles and waxed thread

05. Hand saddle-stitching

We saddle-stitch by hand with two needles and waxed thread, the old way. It takes longer than a machine, but a hand-stitched seam will not unravel if one thread is nicked - each stitch is locked on its own.

Finishing and burnishing the strap edges

06. Edges and finish

Edges are sanded, sealed and burnished until they are smooth to the touch, the buckle is set, and the strap is checked by eye. A soft lining goes against the wrist, and quick-release spring bars make it easy to swap between watches.

Made to order

Because we build each strap after you order, please allow 5 to 7 business days for crafting, then tracked delivery of about 10 to 15 business days to the US and 12 to 20 business days to other countries. You are not buying something off a shelf - you are commissioning a small piece of work.
